I am fairly new to guitar, been playing fo around 9 months so take that into consideration with my questions I want to ask. It looks like the patterns only deal with the chromatic scale. Is that correct and if so is there a way to use it to play the penatonic scale? Can you give more info on what the book has in it, in addition to what is posted on the web.

Thanks
Tim

Hey all you out there. I'm looking to put together more testimonials to help potential customers understand the value and innovation of this method. So, if you have a testimonial you'd like me to use on the site...fire away!
Thanks,
Fred

Hey Fred,

Tried to get into the family of chords on the site, but the password entry space isn't there. The new text looks great, though.

Hey Fred,

Thanks for all the info on chords. That really put it into perspective for me. I thought I'd leave that thread alone and ask this question separately -

If I'm understanding what you're saying, for someone like me who pretty much sits in the family room and plays by himself, the value of the family of chords is this:

I develop a progression I like based on the family, then out of the chords in that progression, I find a solo (or a progression of individual notes) I like - which means I've pretty much got a song - I think. If I've got it wrong, please correct me.

I know I sound pretty dumb for a guy that's been playing for quite a few years, but until two days ago, all I did is learn and memorize other people's songs.

Hiya Fred,
I'd just like to draw to your attention an
inconsistency on the last page of your 'jumping' web page.
Starting with a root of G on the E string you've put three
triples in a row! Shouldn't it be:
triple triple head head
i.e. G-A-B C-D-E F#G-A BC-D

This would then be correct for the key of G; or is there another explanation?

Incidentally, out of curiosity - I've been playing since '59, I recently bought
Guitargrid, I wouldn't recommend it. It's poorly explained, although none of
it is wrong, it just avoids one or two points that should have been given a
deeper explanation. In fact, the demonstration on your web page explains more
or less the whole content of Guitargrid.

In retrospect I'd recommend yours, now that I know that it exists, it certainly
does seem to have more content. I'm afraid your site isn't given any ranking by
the search engine robots. Probably because you're pure flash with no html content.
I found your site via a link on a forum.

Also, a previous poster said he found your site hard to read. He's right.

Hi Fred,

I've just finished the family of chords and the familial heirarchy. I understand the pattern of chords and moving through the pattern horizontally and vertically.

However, I don't understand how to use the pattern to improv.

For instance, with the spiral mapping and jumping, I was able to find a note that fit in with the song I was listening to and find out where in the pattern that note fit then just follow the pattern while soloing.

How does that work with the family of chords? It wasn't clear in the book if I should just progress through the entire family heirarchy, just play the male chords, female chords or whatever.

Or is there not a particular pattern I can use to play along with a song or band if I can find a chord that fits?

By the way, spent an hour tonight sitting and jamming with my favorite classic rock station. My son is freaking out that I can actually play along with the stereo now - uhhh, so am I!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay Fred,
It's now one hour of study and practicing the spiral and jumping. Screw the questions - You are a GENIUS!! I decided to see if this stuff worked, so I plugged into my son's Fender G-Dec practice amp, laid down a rock background track in E at a tempo of 90 and spent about 5 seconds finding a note that sounded good.
I've been improv'ing a solo of that track for 15 minutes and am seeing that pattern all over the fretboard. It's absolutely unbelievable. I've never improv'd anything before and don't know anything about solo'ing. I've been playing the same 30 or 40 songs for about 3 or 4 years.

I'm still getting a little bit stuck around the 12th fret, so some enlightenment would help there.

But your book doesn't even scratch the surface of jumping - I found you don't need the two fret jump - I can just follow the pattern I'm on right down the fretboard without skipping frets - head to bridge to triple and back up.

Absolutely Freaking Amazing!!! I'm so excited about playing guitar now!!!

Got 50 preset tracks on this amp - Now I can do something with all of them.

Hi Fred,

Just got the book and been studying it about 10 minutes. I want to clarify some points on the spiral mapping. (1) Whenever the pattern ends on the 1st string and jumps back up to the 6th string, it appears as though you add one more of that pattern to the count (i.e., 4 triple blocks if the triple block ended on the 1st string and 3 head or bridge sets likewise).
(2) In your diagram, there is a downward shift on the third string at the 12th fret after the triple block - is this always the case no matter where the pattern starts?
(3) Does the pattern always start as you've diagrammed or can I start the pattern anywhere on the fretboard and just go? If so, how does that affect the shift on the 12th fret?

Starting in on the Jumping section now, I'll be back with more questions, I'm sure!! Thanx, Sheen

I'm very interested in getting your book, but am a little confused by the website. Is this book for bass or guitar? I found the link to your book on a forum discussing the guitargrid.com method. I'm guessing your book is a fretboard method that also contains some theory... or, not? Can you enlighten me some? Thanx

okay so i have problem with your whole Tripple Block, Bridge Set, Head Set deal. What mode do you propose to be in for this? Cause i tell ya, i'm looking at my list of modes right now, and i don't see any that contain all three of your "sets". So how is this tecnique aplicable to soloing? Is it supposed to work universally in every key or what? A little help understanding your thought proccess here.

I am hoping i can get some more information on this product. Also, Im sorry, but the font on your website is absolutely terrible...its too hard to read. I suggest you change it. Just being honest.

I was viewing the postings and noticed one from a guy named Chris, asking about guitar set-ups. He was concerned about fret buzzing. Fret buzzing is not a bad thing if it doesn't come through the amp. I have played guitars that belong to Michael Fath, Micheal Lee Firkens, Paul Hansen and Speedy West Jr. Everyone of these Guitars had Perfect action and you Guessed it.(Fret Buzz)If you have not heard of these Players Check em Out!!! It takes some getting used to but 90% of Professional Guitar Instrumentalist have very Low action to the point of Fret Buzzing.

I bet you're getting tired of me asking about Vacuum Town, huh? But I all ready know a good amount to the song, so I figure I might as well ask some more about it :P

So what goes after the part that goes like this:
3/6-5-3-------------------
--------6-3---------------
0-----------5-3-----------
----------------5---------
--------------------------
--------------------------

I just can't quite figure it out :P

Sorry if the text messes up, I don't know whether it will or not
